From Simple Stitches to Signature Designs
Success often leads to bigger dreams. After mastering basic knitting techniques, I found myself drawn to more complex challenges and bigger aspirations. Here's how my craft evolved into a brand.
The First Collection
My initial success led to creating three versatile blankets in neutral tones:
- Natural white
- Sophisticated grey
- Rich brown
These pieces were designed to complement various interior styles. While the work became easier and faster, I felt the creative itch for something more challenging.
Embracing Complexity
Simple knitting no longer satisfied my creative appetite. Having learned the fundamentals of pattern calculation and design, I ventured into creating textured pieces. This experimentation led to my signature piece - the 'Scandy' blanket, which features a distinctive chunky knit pattern.
The Learning Curve
Each new pattern brought its own challenges:
- Testing different yarn combinations
- Adjusting needle sizes
- Experimenting with pattern compatibility
- Countless hours of trial and error
When Things Go Wrong
Let me share a truth about handcraft: mistakes happen, and they're often heartbreaking. Imagine discovering an error 12 inches into a complex pattern - at the foundation row. There's no quick fix, no clever solution. Just the painful process of unraveling days of work and starting again.
These moments taught me:
- Patience beyond measure
- Attention to detail
- The importance of persistence
- The value of quality over compromise
Building a Brand
As my collection grew, featuring different patterns, sizes, and color options, I realized I was creating more than just individual pieces - I was building a brand. This led to:
- Developing a distinctive trademark
- Creating professional packaging
- Designing a product catalog
- Building a cohesive brand identity
Looking Forward
The foundation is laid, but this is just the beginning. My vision includes:
- Learning rug weaving techniques
- Mastering the traditional loom
- Expanding into designer upholstery
- Working with premium fibers like:
- Wool
- Cotton
- Mohair
- Alpaca
The Journey Continues
Each piece in my collection tells a story of growth, learning, and dedication to craft. While I'm proud of how far I've come, I'm even more excited about where this journey is heading.
